On Memorial Day, the Museum of Fine Arts offered free admission. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit one of my favorite places for free, so we spent a couple of hours that afternoon wandering from exhibit to exhibit. My favorite exhibit, worth sharing with you fashion-lovers, was Figure/Fabric/Fantasy. According to the MFA's website: "This show features 50 drawings by 26 artists, dating from the 1940s through the 1980s. Each section of the exhibition is organized roughly chronologically, allowing us to see how styles changed over time—not only the clothing itself, but artists’ dynamic interpretations of it. The works are selections from the Jean S. and Frederic A. Sharf Collection of fashion art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, as well as gifts from the artists themselves."
I've shared some of my favorite pieces below, and I hope you'll enjoy seeing them as much as I did!

I've lived in Boston for almost a year, and I've been dying to visit the Arnold Arboretum since moving here. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Arboretum is a 265-acre park that is home to 14,980 individual plants from all over the world, with particular emphasis on species from North America & eastern Asia. We saw only very little of the park in the couple of hours we were there, and I can't wait to go back to see more. It's definitely one of my new favorite places in Boston!

Head Scarf: thrifted; Sunnies: Steve Madden (Macy's); Purse: vintage Dooney & Bourke (thrifted); Top: Forever 21; Skirt: Lands' End Canvas; Flip-flops: Old Navy
I know some of you are going to want to punch me in my face for saying this, but I loathe hot weather. As soon as the temp creeps above 80 degrees, I turn into a grumpy, whiny baby. We experienced one such day in Boston on Saturday. Somehow, after a great deal of complaining, I managed to drag myself out of our steamy apartment for a walk around the grounds of The First Church of Christ, Scientist. It's one of the prettiest spots in the city!
Admittedly, this outfit isn't one of my most creative or exciting, but, given the ridic hot weather, I wanted to wear pieces that kept me cool: light, loose-fitting clothing & a head scarf to keep my hair off of my face. You'll probably see variations of this look often this summer.

Outfit Details: Sunnies: Steve Madden (Macy's); Dress: vintage, thrifted; Belt: sister's; Purse: vintage Dooney & Bourke (thrifted); Flip-flops: Old Navy
A friend once told me, as I was wearing a gingham top, that my top made him want to eat a picnic off of me. I don't care what the haters say; gingham is one of my favorite patterns, and it's so quintessentially spring/summer.
The last time I wore this dress was in December, and I had to layer the crap out of it to make it suitable for winter wear. In contrast, I love how easily I was able to style it for warmer weather: a few accessories & it's good to go! I do think, however, that I'm going to take it to a seamstress to have it shortened a bit. Man, life would be so much easier if I could sew..

Outfit Details: Sunnies: Ray-Ban (Husband's); Dress: Banana Republic (thrifted); Ring: Vintage (gift); Belt: Gap; Flip-flops: Gap
When I thrifted this dress recently, I thought it would be perfect for fall & that I'd have to wait 'til then to wear it. (The color just screams autumn, no?) But when my sister suggested we go for an impromptu walk the other evening, I quickly grabbed this dress off the hanger & dashed out the door. Now that I'm looking at the photos, I think the dress's style & pattern work for spring & summer too. What do you think?
One of my favorite places to go for walks is along the water behind BU's campus, so that's where sister & I went. How great is this view of the city?

A couple of weeks ago, I heard about Somerville's PorchFest & immediately wanted to go. It's a cool concept: musical acts perform on neighborhood porches & entertain passersby. In reality, though, the whole thing was a bit disorganized, and the maps provided online weren't of much help in discerning where each band was playing. We ended up seeing only a few bands before calling it quits & finding something else to do.
But the day certainly wasn't a total wash: we finally tried Kickass Cupcakes! I chose a Lucky Lemon cupcake, while B chose Red Velvet. I was most impressed, though, which the fact that they sell kitty cupcakes! Eek! Of course I bought one, and my furballs devoured it.

Outfit Details: Sunnies: Jessica Simpson (Macy's); Blouse: Old Navy; Purse: Charlotte Russe; Bracelets: In Pink, American Eagle, American Living; Shorts: Urban Outfitters; Flip Flops: Gap
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I'd recently ordered a bunch of blouses from Old Navy; the grey blouse I'm wearing here is one of them. I'm a little bit in love. It's light & flowy - perfect to wear on its own during the day or layered under a light sweater during cool spring nights. Oh, and how cute is the tie detail?!
