Much to my husband's dismay, I absolutely love borrowing clothing from his wardrobe and incorporating it into my outfits. This vintage plaid button-down is the latest in the long list of items I've borrowed. I've had my eyes on this shirt for awhile now, but I was a little stumped about how to style it: it's a good deal too big for me, and it looks rather shapeless and boyish on my body, which is obviously not at all flattering. However, I was determined to make it work, so I accessorized to try to accomplish a more feminine aesthetic. I added a belt around my waist for shape and a set of pearls to add a hint of girlishness to an otherwise tomboyish outfit. I also opted for leggings rather than pants to give the shirt more of a tunic vibe. I'm happy with the way it turned out, and I can't wait to get creative with other items in B's closet.
Can you think of any other ways I could style this button-down?
I love how you style your husband's shirt with feminine pearls! Xo

So cute! I could never borrow anything from husband's closet, it would be so insanely huge on me! I've seen a lot of people style shirts like that with lace skirts recently...I've been itching to try it myself! You look totally adorable!
ReplyDeleteCute! Love the plaid, and your bun :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you've styled this. It looks great!

how do you get your bun so beautiful and big? love it...I think you should do a tutorial!
ReplyDeleteHow cute!
ReplyDeleteHannah you are the cutest Tom Boy ever in this! I love that you kept it feminine with the pearls. You did a fabulous job. You could always front knot a button down over a dress for a different look that would give you shape!

I love how you styled it! When in doubt, add a belt and some pearls. You gave it shape and you jazzed it up a little bit to make it look like it was a piece in your own closet! Always fun to steal from other people though.. its like double the clothes :) Happy New Year!

No joke, yesterday I was thinking I wanted to buy a plaid button-down because I don't have one. I love this outfit! I really like hot the red sweater makes the plaid pop. Super cute!

This button down would look fantastic with a pair of jeans and red suede wedges (UrbanO's may have some)! Keep it simple, minimalistic but with that red!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, this was is awesome!
I found you via Jess!

It looks great! My husband is not to fond of the fact that I borrow his clothes sometimes too. I think it makes him feel like he owns girl clothes if a girl likes to wear them haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at your ability to create the perfect mega-bun. High five on that!
ReplyDeleteIf I tried incorporating clothes from Mr. A into my wardrobe, I would be swimming in my outfits. They would be wayyyyyy too big, so I am totally jealous of you. :) Love the plaid!

Yeah, I would've never known this was the B's shirt. If I were looking for a different way to style it, it would have to be a rock'n roll type look. You've obviously already got the chic and polished look down. I'd try a long sleeved lace body con top under it. Leave some of the buttons undone at the top, roll the plaid sleeves some and let the lace show and maybe head towards some leather pants or a leather mini with those knee high boots. Keep the make up fresh and girly with pinks and the hair soft and down with some waves or curls. But it all depends on what you're aiming for. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I have to ask - How did you do your topknot? It is just perfection! Love this casual chic outfit (and I also love borrowing my bf's clothes!)
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!

I really like how you styled it to be more femenine and more form fitting. i also love the bright contrast of colors it has.
ReplyDeleteanother interesting ways for u to style it are:
you can throw on a long cardigan and a belt which you will put on top of the cardigan and not of the shirt, you can wear it with ballet flats for a more femenine touch.
another way:
leggings, a vest on top of the shirt, ponytail, boots.
shirt with a flirty short skit with lots of volume, and ankle boots.
jeans, loafers, blazer.
hope i helped.
a way i like wearing mine is: black jeans, leather jacket, boots or ankle boots. though i am not sure if this is your kind of style.
